| Back in 2002 or 2003, our church's youth
group accidently created the
Vineyard Rock Show,
when a student invited a bunch of bands to use our Little
Theatre space (then being used for Coffeehouse shows - see below) but neglected to mention the
arrangement to the youth pastor until the last moment. The show was allowed to proceed anyway,and a
new venue for high school music was born in the northern suburbs of Chicago. The show gained a
lot of popularity among high schools, and was featured in several newspapers. Then, the church moved
and the Little Theatre space was lost. After a couple of shows in the parking lot during the summers,
the new building was ready in June 2006 and the rock show moved back inside, now using the multi-use
lobby space (just a couple months after the building was opened). Visit the

There have been other shows as well - numerous coffeehouse shows in a number of locations (most pre-dating my digital camera, unfortunately), and more recently shows in our main auditorium space as well. Click on the photos for larger images. | |||

| Coffeehouse Designs | |||
| I designed lights for the GARDEN COFFEEHOUSE since it's inception in January 1993 to its
last show in June 2003. Currently on a kind of long-term hiatus, the coffeehouse has always been
sponsored by our church, The Evanston Vineyard. It's
purpose was to provide artists with a supportive, safe place to present their work. Most shows
include a band or other performance artist on stage, and paintings or drawings of other artists on the
walls. In the srping of 1998 we began using the 'Little Theatre' in our church building at that time
- a 250-seat space including a stage, pipe grid, 24-channel ETC Idea console, and about 25 assorted
fresnels and pars. I designed the lighting system for this room, and although budget concerns limited
the result to 13 dimmers, it has proven suprisingly flexible in terms of lighting possibilities.
